(CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A 35-year-old Carlinville woman has been arrested and charged with theft from the Macoupin County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul alleges Jacalyn Walker, an employee of the state’s attorney’s office, transferred a total of $7,000 from the office’s drug asset forfeiture account into her personal checking account. The unauthorized transactions allegedly occurred between November 2023 and May 2024.

Walker is charged with one count of theft of government property under $10,000, a Class 2 felony punishable by up to seven years in prison. She also faces five counts of wire fraud and six counts of official misconduct, all Class 3 felonies each punishable by up to five years in prison. Sentences would be served concurrently, according to Raoul’s office, and are ultimately determined by the court.

Walker is scheduled to appear in court on May 13.

The Attorney General’s office is prosecuting the case following an investigation by the Illinois State Police Division of Special Investigations.
