Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A Springfield man charged with murder and other counts for a shooting death that occurred on Monday will remain in jail throughout his court proceedings.
According to court records, Rod White, 57, was ordered Tuesday to remain in the Sangamon County Jail, on a request by the Sangamon County State’s attorney, under the State’s Pretrial Fairness Act, often referred to as the “SAFE-T Act.” White is charged with three counts of first degree murder, and single counts of possession of a weapon by a felon and possession of a weapon by a repeat felony offender.
White was arrested Monday after the shooting, first reported at 5:47 a.m., in the 1200 block of E. Kansas, around the area of 12th and Kansas Streets, on Springfield’s east side.
A man found at the location, Sean Campbell, 54, was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy later in the day confirmed he died of a gunshot wound.
Details about what led up to the shooting death are not available.
Court records indicate White will be back in court October 16 at 9:00 a.m., for a preliminary hearing. A public defender has been assigned to represent White. He was originally arrested on unrelated charges.
