Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A man is dead after he was shot late Friday night on Springfield’s east side.

According to a news release from Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon, the 31-year-old male was pronounced dead at HSHS St. John’s Hospital around 11:45 p.m. Friday by hospital staff,

Not many details have been released, but Allmon said the shooting occurred in the 1300 block of East Jackson Street.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, Allmon said, and the identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of immediate family members.

Springfield Police are said to still be investigating the shooting, and have not yet released any additional information.
