SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A Springfield man will be sentenced December 17 after pleading guilty to charges of Second Degree Murder and Concealment of a Homicidal Death.

Sangamon County Court records indicate Richard Romine, now 37, was to have gone to trial this week in the case.

However, he recently made the plea and had several First Degree Murder and other charges dropped in exchange.

Romine was arrested in early-May of 2023, days after his 64-year-old Mother Donna was found dead in a West Aire Road home from a single gunshot wound.

Second Degree Murder carries a maximum 20-year prison sentence.

Romine remains held in the Sangamon County Jail without bail.
