Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon has identified the Springfield man who died Thursday after being shot multiple times in the 700 block of North 5th Street as 45-year-old Sammie Tyrone McClinton. After being transported from the scene by EMS, McClinton was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at HSHS St. John’s Hospital, according to Allmon.
Springfield police arrested a suspect less than two hours after officers responded to the call of shots fired and received ShotSpotter alerts. Shelton A. Woolridge, 27, was taken into custody in the 2700 block of South MacArthur Blvd. Detectives recovered the firearm used in the shooting, according to SPD.
Woolridge faces three counts of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated battery with a firearm. He is expected to appear in court Friday afternoon for his first appearance and petition to detain hearing.
