Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – As protesters demanded transparency and accountability by police while demonstrating in front of the Springfield Police Department Monday afternoon, Mayor Misty Buscher and Chief Ken Scarlette met with the family of Chelsey Farley.
Farley and Trevor Hopkins were ejected from the motorcycle they were on after colliding with a vehicle driven by former SPD sergeant Michael Egan. Egan was arrested Monday by the Illinois State Police and U.S. Marshals and charged with aggravated DUI and causing great bodily harm, a class 4 felony.

Caitlin Weiss and Cicely Leonetti — Farley’s sisters — said that she is currently sedated and on a ventilator. “We have a huge road to recovery,” explained Weiss to WAND TV. “He completely smashed my sister, so her pelvis was completely broken as an open loop fracture. She had broke her hip. She’s broke her clavicles and, maybe some internal organ injuries that they found when they opened [her] up during surgery.”
Weiss said that she had reached out on multiple occasions to speak with the mayor, the police chief, and ISP, but it was proven unsuccessful. Her family — and the community that joined forces to support them — protested to demand accountability from their government leaders.
Chelsey’s family was joined by Sonya Massey’s relatives in pushing for law enforcement accountability.
Buscher released this video via social media Monday and encouraged donations to a gofundme.com account set up to assist Chelsey’s family with medical bills and expenses.
