Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Springfield has more jobs as of last month compared to the same time a year ago.  But that’s only 300 more jobs.  Springfield Sangamon Growth Alliance CEO Ryan McCrady says even though the Springfield workforce is comprised of about 115,000, it’s still a good number.  McCrady talks with Will Stevenson on the WTAX Morning Newswatch.

Springfield’s unemployment rate is in good shape. McCrady reminds the community that the unemployment rate “measures the percentage of people seeking work, that aren’t finding work. As people stop seeking work, that number can change.” McCrady further explains, “as an economy goes through an expansion, when you start adding jobs, the unemployment rate bumps up because people start seeking work again. So, you want to also look at the number of employed people.”

McCrady also states steady growth is the best thing for the economy, shocks for either supply or demand cause many problems. A balanced economy also prevents wages from going really high or really low.

McCrady also shared some of the industries that are growing include, health care, education and construction. McCrady encouraged young people who might be interested in working with their hands to check out construction and trade work, because of the increasing demand.
