On August 23, 2024, Melanie Anderson, a beloved resident of Rochester, IL, for many years, passed away at the age of 72 in her home in Port Orange, FL. She was born on January 14, 1952, in Kansas City, MO, to B. Wayne Carmichael and Mary Kathrine Carmichael. Melanie was known for her enduring kindness and generosity, which endeared her to many.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Gary Anderson, her son Eric Anderson, daughter-in-law Britney Anderson, and three cherished granddaughters: Brylee, Brooklynn, and Bridget. Melanie’s unwavering love and commitment to her family was a source of endless joy, especially when spending time with her three young granddaughters. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion.

Melanie was more than an art educator; she was a devoted and passionate artist who shared her love for creativity with her students. Her professional journey included creating and selling artwork at local art fairs, teaching art at Kinkaid schools, and she later retired as an art teacher at Rochester Middle School in 2011. Her impact on her students and community was profound, leaving a legacy of creativity and inspiration. Upon retiring to Port Orange, FL with her husband, she joyfully spent countless hours creating beautiful quilts for family, friends, and service members of the armed forces.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 28, from 4:00-6:00PM at Wilson Park Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St. in Rochester.
