SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – After a weekend of fun here in Springfield, from car shows to a Cozy Dog eating contest. Where does Springfield go from here? Mike Murphy, The CEO of the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce, was a guest on the WTAX Morning Newswatch to discuss the success of this past weekend’s events, and to talk about upcoming events in October.

“As far as tourism and things like that, I really do think Scott (Dahl, City Tourism Director) and his (Visit Springfield) team did an amazing job of being innovators and bringing things to town. Then, as far as economic development, Springfield’s Sangamon Growth Alliance, I work with them a lot on things that they’re trying to do, but it’s their mission to bring new businesses to town. So, I will help out wherever I can.”

There are upcoming events in the month of October. This one is from RISE Springfield. 

“On October 9th, from 10 o’clock in the morning to 6, you can drop off any of your slightly used professional clothing, men and women, such things as dresses, shirts, suits, slacks, khakis, blouses, et cetera. 
Drop those off at the Salvation Army Community Center off Clear Lake, and then the next day, October 10th, from 9 to 2, anybody in the community can pick it up.”

From helping others in the community to putting on Shoes, Brews, And Biz.

“Thursday, October 15th, from 5 o’clock to 8.30 out of the LRS hangar. You can go online and get tickets; tickets are like 25 bucks in advance and $30 at the door. 
And, you know, we have seven different breweries and wineries, and we will have a couple beer trucks out there, too. And then we got some great food vendors is going to have some of their horseshoes, including mellow cream. They always come up with something creative for a dessert horseshoe.”
