Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The district-wide construction plan funded by a voter-approved one percent sales tax continues. District 186 superintendent Jennifer Gill told the school board, meeting Monday for the first time in its new location, “Owen Marsh is starting next spring and its coming in a little bit under budget right now with the design and plan. We still have the Southeast gymnasium, after the field is done, that we want to do with HVAC upgrade, locker room upgrade to begin in the summer of 25, new elementary school would be on tap to begin in the spring of 26.”
The new Owen Marsh school will go up next to the existing one, which will then be demolished. As for the new school, it was to be built near Eleventh Street and Stevenson Drive, though that has changed after environmental concerns came up. Gill says the new location has not been finalized, nor has the fate of Southern View school. Its student body may or may not join those of Laketown and Hazel Dell in attending that new south side school.
