Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – It was an atypically short Springfield City Council Meeting of the Whole Tuesday evening. Aside from regular business, the main issue of the meeting was political signage on city easements.
Ward 4 resident Jean Rockford said she had permission from a property owner to place a political sign on an easement but was then approached by a city inspected who told her she would need a permit.
Corporation Counsel Greg Moredock said his office had discussed the matter and that it was due to placing a temporary sign over a permanent sign, thus the need for a permit.
A question from Ms. Rockford led to discussion of Ace Sign Company placing ads on SMTD bus benches, and did the city make any money from that.
Ward 3 Alderman Roy Williams said there was discussion around Springfield about that matter, but Ward 1 Alderman Chuck Redpath said the City makes no money from those signs, that it’s strictly a matter between Ace and SMTD.
Moredock said he would look into the matter and report back to the City Council.
