Kids, Parents, neighborhood residents as well as member of Springfield Police and Fire Departments got together in an effort dubbed National Night Out.
It’s an opportunity to build bridges and make memories between law enforcement and the people they protect and serve.
Events were happening at venues across the city and WTAX News was at Enos Park which was one of the centerpieces of the evening’s events.
Free hots dogs, inflatable hoops games, facepainting, vendors, even the giant bubble machine as well as police and fire vehicles for kids to explore made for a memorable evening.
Police Chief Ken Scarlett says the annual event is always a big hit, especially with young people and he hopes some kids might even be inspired to become law enforcement themselves someday.
Alderwoman Lakisha Purchase told WTAX News she sees this as an opportunity to rebuild trust in light of the tragic events surrounding the Springfield community right now.
