The Springfield Park District unveiled the newly renovated African Asian Mammals Interpretative Area at the Henson Robinson Zoo during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday.
This facility will create a vibrant new home for African and Asian mammals, currently the Silvery Langurs and Binturongs are being housed there. The facility features a
700-square-foot indoor interpretive area and 800-square-foot outdoor habitat space where visitors can learn about their unique behaviors and habitats.
The 1.03-million-dollar project was funded through a 2020 Illinois Department of Natural Resources Public Museum Capital Grant.
Fun fact: Binturongs smell like popcorn.
