Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – U.S. Rep. Nikki Budzinski (pictured) (D-Springfield) said Monday she does not want a government shutdown, but she also does not want to approve more money for the Department of Homeland Security.
“As I voted last week against additional funding to the Department of Homeland Security,” Budzinski said after an unrelated event in Springfield, “I think the horrific tragedy of what we saw in Minneapolis over this weekend, when Alex Pretti was executed by customs and border patrol officers in Minneapolis – this has to stop.
“The problem, in my mind, is really at the head of (the Department of Homeland Security), which is Secretary Kristi Noem, and that’s why I have signed on to impeachment proceedings for her. She’s woefully inadequate and believes she and her officers are above the law, and so I do think we do want to get to a federal budget, but I think it’s very important in this moment right now – DHS does not deserve another dollar right now.”
Budzinski said she would be at the University of Illinois Wednesday with the president of End Citizens United to roll out an “Anti-Corruption Agenda,” saying that rather than “drain the swamp,” President Trump has made it worse.
