Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The Illinois General Assembly missed its self-imposed deadline of Friday to get a budget to the governor.

A budget bill did emerge late Friday afternoon, but the Senate adjourned without voting on it. If the Senate passes it and sends it to the House, it would have to have three readings there in three days. The upshot is at least some lawmakers will be at the Capitol all three days of the Memorial Day weekend.

“To the best of my knowledge,” State Sen. Don DeWitte (R-St Charles) told WTAX News Friday evening, “we don’t have enough of the correct documents to be able to even start moving this process. There are four different documents typically included in this budget process. We’ve only seen one of them.”

This much is certain: both chambers will be in session Saturday morning.
