Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – For most children, social media has been around their whole lives. And the U.S. surgeon general says its dangers are out of hand, recommending warning labels – pop-ups, for example.
That may be all well and good, but Jonathan Ponser, therapy services manager at Memorial Behavioral Health in Springfield, says there is no substitute for Mom and Dad and their guidance and supervision.
Ponser says parents should set boundaries – such as “device- and screen-free periods so maybe dinnertime, for example, can be one of those times. That way, you can have some actual interactions with one another and be able to process through these things.”
Ponser says from revenge porn and threats to other people’s seemingly perfect lives, there are plenty of land mines out there that can damage a user’s psyche.
