Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Plans are in the works for an Illinois Sports Hall of Fame to be built at Scheels Sports Park.

Michelle Ownbey, executive editor of the Springfield Business Journal, told the WTAX Morning Newswatch Indiana-based entrepreneur Tim Turpin oversees an online version of this but now wants to go brick-and-mortar. “He’s actually done these all over the Midwest. He’s got others in Indiana and Ohio,” said Ownbey.

Scheels Sports Park would seem to be an ideal place, since you are going to have thousands and thousands of, presumably, sports fans coming and going on a pretty regular basis,” Ownbey continued. “He officially signed a letter of intent, looking to buy about four to six acres of land out there, and he’ hoping to be open by the summer of 2028.”
