Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – He got the standing ovation many in District 186 believe he deserves.

Terrence Jordan, currently an Assistant Superintendent, was announced formally as the next district superintendent Tuesday night, replacing the retiring Jennifer Gill, pending a board vote at a date to be determined.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude to the Board of Education, for the confidence you have placed in me,” Jordan told the board. “I am deeply honored by this opportunity, and humbled that you have selected me to serve as leader of this district.”

If it’s possible, Gill says she’s even more honored.

“Pride fills my heart.  Hope fills my soul,” said Gill, to Jordan.  “I look forward to walking alongside you over the next few months, and can’t wait to watch the amazing things you are going to do for our students, our family, and our community in District 186.”

Gill jokingly wondered why Jordan wasn’t in her seat at the board meeting already.

In introducing Jordan, while everyone seems happy with the selection, board president Erica Austin said the hiring and selection process wasn’t like anything she had been a part of before.

“This was not an easy task.  We had an exceptional trove full of candidates, which makes the decision both difficult and meaningful,” said Austin.

Board member Micah Miller says he was first introduced to Jordan by now-retired board member Judy Johnson several years ago.

“She said, ‘Hey, have you met Terry?  You’ve got to talk to this guy,” said Miller.  “I heard all the great things you were doing at Black Hawk.  I’ve really enjoyed seeing you grow into the position.  Just an outstanding character.”

The vote to ratify Jordan’s contact will come once the district’s legal counsel has written it.
