Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A state senator is carrying legislation meant to help Illinoisans who have epilepsy or another seizure disorder. Sen Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield) says requiring insurance to cover seizure detectors is going to be a game-changer.

“Expanding access to these devices is a critical step to ensuring longer and healthier lives for everyone, and by requiring coverage through health insurance plans, we are creating new pathways for those who suffer from a seizure disorder to get the care they deserve,” said Morrison at a Capitol news conference.

Another lawmaker, State Sen. Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro), whose husband is epileptic, said, “There’s a great stigma that goes with this, and so we’re way behind, way behind in the treatment for this, because remember: This was something that maybe even in Biblical times, they thought was demonic possession, so there is still a stigma that goes with it. So I think this bill moves us in a direction to take us out of that stigma as well.”
