Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The regional general manager of Republic Services told the Springfield city council Tuesday it’s identified both the problem and the customers affected by overcharging. Aldermen have been getting calls from citizens who are being billed $50 per month, as opposed to the city-contracted rate of $15 per month.

“We did find that there was an issue with our web site,” said Aaron Batiste. “We’ve identified approximately one to two percent of (our Springfield customers) that were impacted. We are ensuring that the proper rates are set up for them. That should happen around the end of this month, and from there, we will be making sure the impacted residents get credits for the overcharges that they received.”

Batiste said anybody with questions can call the number on their Republic bill, though he believes Republica knows of all of the overcharges.

“The first phase, obviously, is to get the existing rates corrected,” Batiste continued. “From there we will be reaching out to the impacted individuals with letters to them notifying them of credits.”
