Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The sounds of the Carillon rang through Washington Park Friday evening as the new lighting at the Thomas Rees Memorial Carillon was unveiled to the public after a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Springfield Park District and Rees Carillon Society.
Attendees were treated to a special preview of the new lights in action, followed by a holiday-themed carillon concert. The lights will be on every evening not only to make the Carillon more beautiful, but also to attract the public to visit.
This new addition was made possible by many fundraising efforts of the Rees Carillon Society, including events like the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular.
If you would like to support, merchandise will be for sale and donations will be accepted at their next free event, Caroling at the Carillon on Dec. 8 from 3:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m., which will feature not just caroling, but also family-friendly holiday activities and snacks.
