Rochester, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday marked the start of a $27.7 million construction project at Rochester High School. The initiative aims to improve academic and athletic facilities while also improving security on campus.
The project will include the addition of five modern classrooms and laboratories to support hands-on STEM learning. A new Student Services Suite will provide a centralized hub for academic assistance and mental health services while providing one-on-one meeting spaces for students and staff.
Plans also include a double-secured main entrance to enhance campus security.
Athletic facilities will receive several updates including an upgraded soccer field and tennis courts. Planned improvements to Booster Stadium include better seating, a new track, upgraded lighting, and enhanced field quality. New scoreboards will be installed across all athletic venues, and the softball field will get a new press box.
Superintendent Dan Cox emphasized how the project strikes a balance. “We’ve been planning this project for over five years, and we’re thrilled that this project is 50/50 equal academic facilities for our student support and security and also an enhancement to athletics and co-curricular facilities,” Cox told our news partners at WAND TV.
The projects will be completed in the next year or so, and the science wing is expected to be in use by this time next year.
