Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NEWS) – A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Tuesday afternoon to open the newly completed tennis courts on the campus of Rochester High School.

The courts are located just east of the Sports Administration Complex behind the high school.

3rd year girls’ tennis coach, Rolando Salazar, who is also now in his second year of coaching the boys’ team as well says the new courts have a surfacing that will be a much safer environment for the players. He says the courts will be available for the use of Rochester residents as well as students.

The teams #1 tennis player, Senior Julia Musgrave, knows a lot about her sport. She says the courts are a great improvement over the old courts. She says the old courts had a lot of dead spots and areas were peeling and she called the vegetation nice landscaping but not good for playing.

Player Junior, Cora Haupt, says she likes the striking color scheme, Navy Blue and Light Blue with a big orange R. She says there are now among the best courts in the state.

School officials point out this courts are part of massive construction project happening at Rochester High School which will include a new football field and science wing and all without a tax increase.
