Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A Rochester man arrested after a deadly shooting in the 2000 block of North Dirksen Parkway Tuesday night has been granted pretrial release. Nicholas J. Kammueller, 46, was in court Thursday and pleaded not guilty to a DUI charge.
Kammueller’s arrest followed a motor vehicle crash and altercation near the North Dirksen Parkway McDonald’s. A woman involved in the crash, according to Springfield police, asked 51-year-old Jerald Fahey to come to the scene of the accident.
When police arrived at the location of the crash, they reported hearing multiple shots fired and found Fahey on the ground with gunshot wounds. He was taken to HSHS St. John’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:40 p.m.
Fahey had approached Kammueller’s vehicle, which led to the shooting, according to a media release from SPD.
State’s Attorney John Milhiser told our news partners at WAND TV that Kammueller’s case is still under investigation by SPD and more charges may come later.
Kammueller was granted pretrial release under the conditions that he have no alcohol or firearms. His next court date is scheduled for May 8.
