Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Former District 186 superintendent Diane Rutledge (pictured) is this year’s First Citizen.
The annual recognition is enjoying a revival after a long sponsorship by the State Journal-Register ended.
A news release issued upon presentation of the award at Erin’s Pavilion Wednesday lauded Rutledge not just for her accomplishments as an educator, but for a lifetime of public service.
“Rutledge has had a profound influence on generations of educators and students alike,” the release reads, adding, “her impact reaches far beyond education. Through her decades of community service – in health care, youth development, and civic engagement — she has truly made the Springfield area a better place to live, learn, and grow as a community.”
Rutledge has served on more than two dozen community boards and organizations.
