SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) – The Salvation Army Springfield Family Store in the Chatham Square Shopping Center will close later this month.
According to the Salvation Army Springfield Corps, the store will close on Oct. 24.
The nonprofit said the closure will only impact the thrift store operation and will not affect its ongoing programs and community services.
“We understand that many community members have concerns when they see a Salvation Army location close, especially given the changes Springfield has experienced in recent years. We want people to know that The Salvation Army is still here, actively serving our neighbors, and looking for new opportunities to expand our impact in the community,” said Corps Officer Capt. Matt McCluer in a statement.
The Salvation Army added that it is “actively exploring” opportunities to reopen the store in a new location.
Community members who rely on the Family Store are encouraged to visit the organization’s main Springfield facility on Clear Lake Avenue.
The Salvation Army in Springfield does not operate the current store. It’s run by the Adult Rehabilitation Center in St. Louis.
