Springfield, IL  (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A new debt collection effort in Sangamon County is already paying off.

In three weeks, a contract with PayCourt has recovered nearly $130,000 in unpaid traffic and criminal fines, Sangamon County Circuit Clerk Joe Roesch and State’s Attorney John Milhiser announced Wednesday. PayCourt reportedly has also secured payment agreements totaling more than $391,000.

A news release from the county stated that before partnering with PayCourt, collections averaged only a few hundred dollars per month, allowing unpaid fines to accumulate to millions of dollars over many years.

So far, the county has received nearly $96,000 in recovered fines, funds that will help cover the costs of processing criminal and traffic cases. Eventually, the contract will expand to include collections for child support and maintenance case fees.

PayCourt is a collections business based in Taylorville and specializes in collections of unpaid court debt.
