Springfield, IL  (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Plans for a new 71,000-square-foot warehouse on Springfield’s north end, near the intersection of North Dirksen Parkway and Bissell Road, are in the works. While the tenant of the site has not been confirmed, the project is expected to bring economic benefits to the area. According to Ryan McCrady, President and CEO of the Springfield Sangamon Growth Alliance, the warehouse could generate up to 100 new jobs, marking a positive step for local employment and economic growth. The project, he said, still requires approval of the Springfield City Council.

In addition to the North Dirksen Parkway project, another warehouse development is progressing on Palm Road, near the Chatham exit off Interstate 55. The project, according to McCrady, is still in the design phase as the developer works with the City of Springfield and IDOT. The site, once built, will house distribution operations for Frito-Lay. The developer aims to break ground in the spring of 2025, according to McCrady.

Springfield is actively positioning itself as a hub for warehousing and manufacturing, with efforts underway to attract more businesses. “You can reach over a third of the country’s population in a one-day truck drive from Springfield,” McCrady noted, emphasizing that this range surpasses what is possible from major cities like Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City or Nashville.
