Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – What began as a Texaco/Marathon service station in 1946 and served the Northend and Route 66 travelers until 1982 and then became a world-famous museum dedicated to the Mother Road experience had its grand reopening Monday afternoon.

The building and grounds are filled with vintage autos, service station equipment and other memorabilia related to the historic highway that ‘winds from Chicago to LA”.

After 10 years of being closed and two years of planning the owner, Randy Pickett, worked with the city to arrange some grant money to assist with the re-opening.

Dedicated North Enders, Mayor Misty Buscher, State Senator Doris Turner and Alderman Larry Rockford were on hand to voice their support for the revitalized space.
