Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Contractors working near the Sangamon County Jail, Sheriff’s Office, and courthouse apparently caused problems to the operations of those facilities this week.

That’s according to Sheriff Paula Crouch, who says crews working in the area of “The Hub” on Monday struck a water line behind the jail, causing the jail to use bottled water.  Crouch says crews were working on the proposed changes to the downtown rail corridors at the time.

That problem was fixed by the next morning.

Then, on Wednesday, Crouch says, crews working behind the jail struck an underground power line, taking out electricity to parts of the jail, sheriff’s office, and county complex.

“The situation was closely monitored throughout,” said Crouch, in a news release. “Inmates continued receiving meals, bottled water, and temperature checks. Average cell temperatures ranged from 72 to 78 degrees, and plans were in place in case conditions worsened or repairs took longer than expected.”

Backup generators were in use to keep essential systems operational, said Crouch..

“All necessary repairs have been completed, and systems and services have fully returned to normal operations,” said Crouch, in a news release.
