(CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The Sherman Police Department is mourning one of its own, an officer who gave years of service to the village and its residents. Gerald Schneider died Sunday after battling cancer.  The department reported on social media that Schneider died surrounded by his loved ones.

Schneider was committed to serving and protecting as a Seargent for the Illinois Secretary State Police Capitol Division and the Sherman Police Department.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Sherman. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be held at Fancy Creek Cemetery near Sherman after services.
