Shirley M. Mohr, 92, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at 5:42PM at Regency Care in Springfield, IL.
Shirley was born on March 30, 1932, in Springfield, IL. the daughter of Glenn L. and Kathryn Blakely Sharp. She married Donald E. Mohr on November 21, 1953 at Stuart Street Christian Church with Reverend Russell Hensley officiating.
She graduated from Dodds Grade School and Springfield High School Class of 1950, and the Memorial School of Nursing in 1953. After graduation she worked on the Obstetric Floor as the head nurse in the Post-Partum Section for several years. She also worked in all of the state first aid stations as a Relief Nurse while raising her family. She retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation as their Industrial Health Nurse in the First Aid Station after eleven years and nine months. She was a certified CPR instructor with the American Heart Association and taught many employees of IDOT until her retirement.
She was a 60-year member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she served as a Deacon, started the blood pressure clinic with another nurse, held Secretary, Treasurer and President positions in Mothers club, the name was later changed to Women Today, the committee to provide Christmas gifts for 10 children at Fairview School.
Shirley was a charter member of the Springfield Ski and Boat Club. She attended many functions of the Masons, Consistory and ANSAR Shrine with her husband.
She was also a member of the Springfield Lions Club.
She and her husband enjoyed 65 years together. In the early years of their marriage, they spent time trailer camping with their three children, traveling the United States from coast to coast, She and her husband also traveled to Hawaii twice, Alaska, Jamaica and Acapulco, Mexico.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing pinochle with a group she started 60 years ago, and camping with her family.
Shirley is survived by two daughters, Gloria Leslie Marsh (Jeffrey Pribble) of Champaign and Sharon Leigh (Peter) Sperduti of Pinehurst, TX, a son, Daniel James Mohr of Springfield; one grandson, Zachary Lawrence Sperduti of Spring, Tx; brother Robert Eugene Sharp of Springfield; three nieces Steffani (Jeffrey) Wros, Valeri (Ray) McHugh, and Kyla (Jay) Holmes as well as Fiona and Finley.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents; a brother, James Leslie Sharp; and grandson Glyn O. Marsh II.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 1:00PM until the time of the funeral service at 2:00PM at First Christian Church, 700 S. 6th St. in Springfield with Reverend Michael Riggs officiating. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) or to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 4400 Clayton, Ave. St. Louis, MO 63110. Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery.
