Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A 24-year-old Springfield man was arrested Friday on multiple weapons charges following an investigation into gunfire reports. Springfield police responded to ShotSpotter alerts around 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the 2500 block of Bluebird Court and the 2900 block of Taylor Avenue. Officers found several shell casings but no victims or witnesses.
Police launched an investigation and served search warrants, recovering a 12-gauge shotgun and a Ruger Security 9 mm pistol. Lavaughn T. Williams was arrested and charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, aggravated unlawful use of a firearm, and possession of a firearm without a valid FOID card. Williams was booked into the Sangamon County Jail.
