Springfield, IL  (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Today thousands of medical students across the U.S. simultaneously opened envelopes containing the 2025 National Residency Match results. 80 of those students were the SIU School of Medicine’s graduating class.

Jerry Kruse, the Dean and Provost of the SIU School of Medicine, explained that this is a big deal for students. It is the next step in their career. Kruse also shared that 19 out of the 80 students will stay at SIU for their residency. The school will also be accepting an additional 150 students into their residency program.

Graduating students Brock Tonazzi and David Farmer were accepted into SIU’s residency program. Tonazzi’s field of study is diagnostic radiology, and he hopes to stay in the Midwest but further south after his residency. Farmer is studying general surgery and would like to further his career in Springfield.

There were lots of tears, cheers, and excitement as students celebrated the next chapter in their careers.
