Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) -(UPDATE 6/3/24 10:46 a.m.) – Springfield police arrested 40-year-old Julie Marshall on Saturday on charges of first-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon. Marshall is currently in the Sangamon County jail awaiting formal charges by the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s office.

(UPDATE 6/2 3:28 p.m.) Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon has confirmed the victim is 23-year-old Michael Gristy of Springfield. Preliminary findings, from an autopsy completed Saturday, indicate Gristy died from multiple stab wounds.

Saturday morning just after 4:30 a.m., Springfield police responded to the 2500 block of East North Grand Avenue, where officers found a 23-year-old man bleeding from a stab wound. The man was transported to HSHS St. John’s Hospital but did not survive. A person of interest was located in the 3000 block of Louise Lane, where police say the stabbing occurred. The case remains under investigation.
