Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport says reservations are being taken now for an expanded — an enhanced — schedule of flights to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.

“Fly SPI” says the flights through American Airlines will start October 7th departing at 6:00 a.m., and the airport says will allow passengers to make connecting flights to other cities easier.

The airport says American will, at the same time, use a new 65 passenger seat plane for the flights, instead of the 50-seat planes they have been using.

“We are thrilled that American Airlines has brought back the popular early morning departure!” said Frank Vala, Chair of the Springfield Airport Authority Board of Commissioners, in a news release “We appreciate American’s continued commitment to provide air service to Illinois’ Capital City.  The new flight schedule and larger aircraft will surely enhance the passenger experience and provide greater opportunities for local business, governmental, and leisure travel.  This is a positive development that will surely provide significant support to the community’s continued efforts to grow our economy and boost tourism in the region.”

There will now be two American flights leaving daily from SPT, and two arriving.
