Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Unlike earlier this year, it was not the city removing part of a homeless encampment at North Fifth Street and North Grand Avenue. Ald. Lakeshia Purchase brought it up at Tuesday’s council meeting.

“A special shout-out,” Purchase said, “Ronetta Buckner from the Phoenix Center reached out to me. She and the street team that they have under the Continuum of Care removed items from in front of an abandoned property and were able to use that owner’s dumpster to remove those items. So the city did not remove any of those items.

The agencies put eight people into a hotel and gave them a hot meal.
