Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – After car attacks such as that in New Orleans (pictured) a couple of months ago … interest is rising in safety barricades. Springfield aldermen have approved a $635,000 system after hearing from police chief Ken Scarlette.
“We’ve seen what’s happened across the world as far as how a vehicle can be used in a terroristic manner,” said Scarlette, “and, as many festivals and activities as we have in our community, we feel it is important to protect our citizens, whether it be parades or whatever the case may be. This is not just to necessarily prevent intentional attacks.”
