Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – It’s not the first time Springfield Memorial Hospital has received a big designation, but the fifth time might be nothing to slouch at, either.
According to a news release, Memorial has received what is called “healthcare’s highest honor for nursing excellence.” The hospital learned Monday it has received “Magnet®” designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) for the fifth time.
Springfield Memorial also received “Magnet with Distinction” designation — “their most elite designation.”
Memorial says only two percent of hospitals nationwide have received five consecutive “Magnet” designations.
“The Magnet program recognizes hospitals that provide high-quality nursing care while also supporting and empowering nurses,” said Jennifer Bond, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer for Memorial, in a news release. “That empowerment translates into higher job satisfaction for nursing teams and a better experience for patients.”
Memorial, officials said, first received the designation in 2006, then can re-apply every five years.
“In April, surveyors from the ANCC came to SMH for a site visit, speaking with more than 350 clinical nurses, support staff and members of the community,” said the news release “The surveyors commended SMH in multiple areas, including strong collaboration between teams and departments, innovation in care delivery and a commitment to the well-being of nurses.”
“Five Magnet designations, including Magnet with Distinction, is an amazing accomplishment that puts SMH among the top hospitals for nursing nationwide and around the world, said Mandy Eaton, CEO, Memorial Health, in the news release. “We’re truly fortunate to have a nursing culture that values innovation, quality care and doing what’s best for our patients.”
