Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Springfield Police Officer Samantha Lulay was recently recognized for her heroic actions in providing medical care to a victim with a nearly-severed arm. Springfield Mayor Misty Buscher and Springfield Police Chief Ken Scarlette awarded Lulay with the Life Saving Award on Wednesday.

Lulay responded to a residence on Villanova Drive on the evening of March 7 for a disturbance.  While enroute, she was advised that multiple people had been cut by a machete, and one victim was experiencing severe bleeding.  When the officer entered the residence, she found a victim with a left arm that was almost completely severed, according to the SPD. Lulay delivered life-saving measures by applying a tourniquet to the victim’s upper arm, and she also provided emotional support to the victim. She was honored for acting quickly with measures that, according to SPD, undoubtedly saved the life of the individual.
