SPRINGFIELD, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) — Springfield police credit residents who reported suspicious behavior as instrumental in weekend arrests.

Storage unit burglary

On Friday, police found Britt H. Utinske, 42, inside a storage unit at Mansa Storage on South 9th Street. Video showed him breaking in and attempting to access other units. He was arrested for burglary and unlawful use of a weapon after officers discovered brass knuckles and jewelry in his possession. Utinske has been released from custody.

Shed break-in

On Saturday, officers arrested Craig A. West, 33, near Third and Pine Streets for breaking into a state-owned shed. SPD reports West was in possession of numerous pieces of mail and credit cards not belonging to him. The credit card was removed from a vehicle that had been broken into. West was previously arrested on Nov. 15 for burglary to a vehicle. He remains in custody at the Sangamon County Jail.

Suspicious U-Haul

On Sunday, police responding to Liberty Storage on Constitution Drive arrested Frank G. Symons, 49, and Jessica M. Clark after finding a suspicious U-Haul. Symons was charged with possession of burglary tools and methamphetamine, while Clark was charged with possession of burglary tools. Symons remains in custody, and Clark has been released.
