Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Great weather brought thousands of people downtown Saturday to celebrate the LGBTQ community. Co-organizer Roy Pyers is a co-founder of the Phoenix Center, which Saturday unveiled its new logo (pictured).

The local LGBTQ center has been going for 25 years, and PrideFest for fifteen years.

Pyers said the event draws about 10,000 people a year, and the weather Saturday may have pushed that number higher.

LGBTQ issues are controversial to some. When asked if LGBTQ is a choice, Pyers said with a chuckle, “You’re entitled to your own opinion.”

The event included music, a parade, food vendors, booths from state agencies, and a drag show.
