Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Springfield Ward 2 Alderman Shawn Gregory talks with Joey McLaughlin on the WTAX Morning NewsWatch about the Springfield City Council meeting, Car chargers for the city, cooling centers, and more.

The city council approved the installation of 40 electric charging stations at last night’s council meeting.

Alderman Shawn Gregory believes the demand is continuing to rise and that it is always good to push for clean energy sources.  Alderman Gregory is unsure of where they will be installed but imagines many will be installed downtown and by the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.

With all the heat and more still to come, cooling centers have been essential. Alderman Gregory is thankful that he hasn’t heard any complaints on there not being enough cooling centers and even mentioned a new one has been added on the North side.

Alderman Gregory is also happy to say there are more cooling centers now than when he first took his position in 2019 but hopes to see the day cooling centers are no longer necessary.
