Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – UPDATE (1/2/25) Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon has identified the victim of the New Year’s Day shooting as Kilanna Gladney of Springfield. Thursday’s autopsy results indicate she died from a single gunshot wound. The death remains under investigation.

(1/1/25) – New Year’s Day proved deadly for a Springfield woman who succumbed to injuries following a shooting on the city’s east side.

At approximately 11:40 a.m., Springfield Police were dispatched to the 1600 block of South 17th Street after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located the victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon confirmed the 31-year-old died after being transported by EMS to HSHS St. John’s Hospital. Despite efforts to save her, the victim was pronounced dead at 12:11 p.m.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, and the identity of the deceased is being withheld until her next of kin has been notified. Police confirm a homicide investigation in underway.
