Springfield woman sentenced to 5 years in IDOC for role in 2024 murder

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) – A Springfield woman was sentenced to time behind bars for her role in a 2024 murder.

According to Sangamon County court records, Julie Marshall was sentenced to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, followed by two years of mandatory supervised release.

She will also receive 826 days of credit served in the Sangamon County Jail.

The Springfield Police Department said officers responded to the 2500 block of East North Grand just after 4:30 a.m. June 1, 2024, after a 23-year-old man was stabbed.

Officers arrived to find a man bleeding inside a vehicle after being stabbed.

He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Police arrested Marshall later that day in the 3000 block of Louise Lane.

Marshall pleaded guilty to second-degree murder after taking a plea deal in May.
