Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Juneteenth Inc. invites the Springfield community to come together in celebration, reflection, and unity during a week of powerful programming to commemorate Juneteenth. Observed on June 19, Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when the last enslaved people in Texas learned of their freedom more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. In Springfield, Illinois, the home of Abraham Lincoln, this day holds special significance as we honor our city’s connection to emancipation and its identity as the Home of Juneteenth.
