SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Sojourn Shelter and Services has a wide range of services for those who’ve survived or otherwise have been impacted by domestic violence.

“We’ve got 26 full-timers (employees).  A lot of the service part of it has to do with the court advocates.  We’ve got court advocates in our five counties that we serve:  Sangamon,  Mason, Christian, Logan, Menard Counties,” said Ron Homann, Director of Prevention and Outreach, on the WTAX Morning Newswatch.  Many of those advocates help victims navigate the legal team, and often help with things like orders of protection.

That’s in addition to the shelter itself, in Springfield, which Homan says is safe and secure, and the type of place victims should feel at peace in, if they need to stay there.

That’s where a lot of the money may go from tickets for the seventh annual “Stand Up for Sojourn” this Friday night at Pole Barn Chic.

“Our (stand-up) comedian is Arvin Mitchell.  He’s from St. Louis.  He’s hysterical…he does all kinds of animated things.  He had a lot of fun with the crowd,” said Homann.  “Our host and hostess are (Saturday Night Live alum) Chris Kataan and Maria (Libri)…everybody knows her.”

There’s also a silent auction and a raffle being held.

Doors open Friday night at 6:30pm.  You can find more information at the link above.  Tickets are available online, and at the door.
