The Senate adjourned the spring session Sunday night, while the House took Sunday and Monday off.

Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – When the Illinois House re-convenes Tuesday, it will have a roughly $53.1 billion budget to consider. Senators passed the budget on a mostly party-line vote Sunday night.
Democratic Sens. Suzy Glowiak Hilton (D-Western Springs) and Patrick Joyce (D-Essex) joined all Republicans in voting against.
Sen. Don DeWitte (R-St Charles) was one of several Republicans to speak up against the proposal.
“In my view, there was no attempt whatsoever to build this budget around revenue numbers,” he said, “that the adults in the room – the accounting professionals – told us were falling.”
Added DeWitte of the two most-promoted tactics to balance the budget: “Revenue enhancements, my ass.”
The budget raises taxes on sports betting companies and cuts the discount retailers get for collecting sales taxes.
Sen. Andrew Chesney (R-Freeport) said the Democrats could easily balance the budget by eliminating “Cadillac” health care for migrants.
Republicans accused the governor of creating the migrant crisis and of simply wanting to be president.
The fiscal year begins July 1.
SB 251 has passed the Senate, 38-21, and goes to the House.
