Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – One of two teenagers accused of killing another teen more than a year and a half ago is spending 30 years in prison.
Sangamon County Court records indicate Dremone Patterson, 17, who was being tried as an adult, pleaded guilty two weeks ago to first degree murder and possession of a stolen vehicle as part of a plea deal resulting in the sentence.
Patterson fired shots from a car in April of last year, killing Keyon Day, 16, on Taylor Avenue near Dreamland Park in April, 2024.
The driver of that car — 16-year-old Cordae Cooper, is also being tried as an adult and is scheduled for a status hearing Thursday morning.
He faces several charges including first degree murder by accountability. Court records in that indicate a judge in November approved requests for Extended Media Coverage in that case — meaning, news cameras and microphones will be allowed to be used in by journalists if the case goes to trial.
