Springfield, (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – To mark the first day of early voting the Faith Coalition for the Common Good held an event at the downtown cafe, The Wakery on Thursday evening. The topic; the power of women in politics.

Around 50 women gathered to hear speakers and panelists discuss their challenges and triumphs as woman in leadership roles. Among the speakers were State Senator Doris Turner and Alderwoman Jennifer Notariano.

All agreed that woman have made tremendous strides in recent decades, but much work needs to be done and vigilance and determination are required to hang on to the advances that others have made.

A focus on young voters was part of the program and panelist encouraged the younger women to reach out to those who blazed the trail for leadership and guidance.

A voter registration drive was held in conjunction with the panel discussion.
